pains: Cooled RF Ablation of Genicular nerves
If you or someone you know is suffering from severe pain in knees, if physiotherapy and other exercises are not helping your pain or if you have been advised knee replacement surgery but you are not willing or if you are not fit to undergo major surgery, you have an effective option available to control your Knee pain.
What is Cooled Radiofrequency Ablation technique?
Cooled RF technique uses Radiofrequency probes to reduce the sensation of the nerves which are carrying pain signals from your damaged knees.
Since it affects only the sensation of the nerves without disturbing the power of the nerves, the strength of knee is not affected and you can walk without difficulty.
What is expected from Cooled RF Technique
Your knee pain will go down and your mobility will increase. It will not repair the damaged knee. Your Pain physician may advise you to wear special knee braces for additional pain relief and benefit.
It may take 3-4 weeks for its effect. For pain, your doctor will prescribe you some medications and will advise you Ice packs for initial 3-4 days.
What is the success rate?
It depends on the stage of Knee osteoarthritis. We have 70-80% success in early Osteoarthritis Knee. As the disease progress, the pain relief is 30-50% with success rate of 40-60%.
What are the complications?
Chances of local bleeding are there which can be controlled easily.
Chances of infection, though rare, are specially seen in diabetic patients. You doctor will prescribe 5-7 days of antibiotics after the Cooled RF procedure.
